Urban tasting with Peter Beckingham
Sunday May 19, 2024

Please note that the Saturday tasting has been cancelled.

Beckingham Wines is a family-owned winery hidden in a small factory in Moorabbin, only a 24 km drive from the CBD. Peter Beckingham, with the assistance of his wife Ann, crafts a range of sparkling, white, red and fortified wines.

A passionate Chemical Engineer as well as Chief Winemaker, Peter Beckingham crushes and ferments grapes sourced from trusted growers. Maturing and bottling also takes place in the factory. Peter brings state-of-the-art technology to winemaking, using techniques such as reverse osmosis and electrodialysis.

Peter also offers his services, including sparkling wine production, smoke taint removal, salt reduction, alcohol reduction and bottling to other winemakers.

Peter will talk about his winemaking and demonstrate the process of disgorging sparkling wines, and you’ll be able to taste a selection of his wines. As well as ‘the usual suspects’ like Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, you’ll find some unexpected gems such as Sparkling Marsanne, Fortified Cabernet and a Pinot Gris Liqueur.  In recent years Peter has developed an interest in beer and has recently produced a lager, ale and stout, which you’ll also have the opportunity to taste.

Tea, coffee, sandwiches and nibbles will be provided.

Tour of the Orange Wine Region (2 places remaining)

Monday September 23, 2024 – Thursday September 26, 2024

This is an interstate tour you won’t want to miss. If you joined us on the November 2022 tour of Tasmania, you’ll know what we mean. The tour begins with a ‘Welcome to Orange’ dinner on the night of Monday September 23, 2024, followed by three full days of exploring the region’s cellar doors.

The Orange Wine Region has a wide range of elevations, from 376 to 1390 metres above sea level. The climate is very different from that of Tasmania, the Mornington Peninsula, the Yarra Valley and other Australian cool-climate regions, and so are the wines.

The town of Orange is about 256 km west of Sydney by road and is easily accessible by train from Sydney.  Accommodation will be at the Mercure Orange.

Please read the Function Notice carefully before booking. If you book online using the link below, you do not need to complete the remittance advice.
